Vår Frelsers Cemetery is a unique landscape space in Oslo. The 200-year-old cemetery is the resting place for a number of famous Norwegians. Many people pass through the cemetery on their way to work or on Sunday walks. Now there are plans to improve the support functions for this culturally and historically important cemetery.
The Church Council in Oslo (KfiO) has commissioned Transborder to develop a detailed regulation of Vår Frelsers Cemetery and Akersbakken 32. A central part of the plans is the construction of a new administration and service building at Akersbakken 32. The building will house office space for the council's employees, as well as workshops and operational facilities for the Cemetery Agency. KfiO proposes to regulate the cemetery for preservation to ensure the cultural environment.
As part of the proposal, KfiO wants to establish a new public entrance to the cemetery from the north. KfiO also wants to provide space for other functions that support the use of the area. Through outward-facing areas in a new building, Akersbakken 32 can become a meeting place for visitors and the neighborhood.
