The proposal introduces different identities for the three buildings which interpret the history of the area: Verkstedet, Bryggehuset and Garnsteinen.

Verkstedet is inspired by Harstad’s engineering industry and the existing workshop on the site.

Bryggehuset has a symmetry that refers to the brewhouses along the quay.

Garnsteinen has a brick facade with net stones which make reference to the local brickworks as well as the fishing traditions in Harstad.

This approach creates a distinctive identity to each of the buildings in addition to a variation within Kaarbøkvarteret.

The ground floor premises are flexible and can house functions such as restaurants, work communities and workshops. An inclusive and open urban floor will contribute to activity on the ground floor, both indoors and outdoors.
