"Huset" is a part of a new development where a racecourse will be transformed into a new vibrant and urban area. The project seeks to create good spaces for the local community and will form the heart of Leangen. In addition to new housing, “Huset” will include a kindergarden, gym, shops and a community house on the ground floor.

”Huset” at Leangen is a social building that creates multiple meeting-places both in connection to its context and in its combination of programs.

The project consists of three freestanding volumes on an porous base, creating a flexible ground floor, clearly defined urban spaces, housing with daylight and views and a generous common roof terrace overlooking the sports field and Gråkallen.

The base defines the surrounding spaces for residents and visitors. The generously sized park spaces, the sheltered south-facing roof terrace, urban streets and smaller squares all contribute towards different meeting-places for a diverse array of communities at Leangen. The kindergartens outdoor area faces Leangen sports park and creates potential for a mixing of activities, while the staggered shape of the base defines the entrances for the different departments. Next to the urban axis the niches and cornes define sheltered spaces outside the shops. At the intersection of three important axies, the public ”folkesal” lies like a loggia with a columnaded front giving it a clear precence in the city. This «folkesal» is a canteen designed as a large hall – publicly accessible and a common living room for the local community.

The housing is split into three different buildings on top of the base, with a generous common roof terrace between them. Because of this a large amount of the apartments are corner units, creating good lighting conditions, generous views and interesting spaces in both the large and small apartments. Recessed corner balconies protects against wind and rain and gives the outdoor spaces privacy. The apartments have rational and efficient plans, with space-saving built-in furnishings, attractive and functional private outdoor space, and flexible rooms with different zones.
